Councils get highways funding

Council highway authorities will receive £9 million of extra funding to help them better manage their roads, bridges and other highways assets, transport minister Paul Clark announced today.

The new money will help councils to gather important information on their streetlights, bridges, roads and other assets, in order to manage them as effectively as possible.

This new funding will be shared between all 152 local authorities in England and is in addition to the £23 million announced earlier this year.
