Court clears cleaner on Swiss Re murder charge


A CONSTRUCTION cleaner working on Skanska's Swiss Re 'Gherkin' scheme in the City of London was cleared at the Old Bailey last week of murdering a friend and fellow worker on the job.

Jimmy Kerlit, of Chadwell Heath, Essex, claimed he acted in self-defence after fellow cleaner Michael Bowen threatened him with a mop in a row over money in February.Mr Bowen died from stab wounds to the heart The cleaners were working on one of the floors where finishing work was being carried out on the landmark building.
