Crane settlement

THE THREAT of a strike by 150 tower crane drivers has been averted after union chiefs struck a pay deal with plant hire giant Hewden Stuart this week. The new agreement comes into force at the beginning ofDecember and lasts until January 2001.

Drivers will now be paid £7 an hour, which incorporates the previous guaranteed bonus of£15 a week.
