Crushing fine

NEWS IN BRIEF

Two firms have been fined a total of £40,000 after a man was crushed to death in August 2003.

Ilkeston magistrates fined Colchester groundworks firm CA Blackwell £15,000 and Blackburn company Combined Stabilisation £25,000 over the death of Bernard Place, from Blackburn. Mr Place died when heavy machinery reversed over him while he was working on a car park at Toyota's Burnaston site in August 2003.
