David Davis gains Tory leadership momentum

David Davis's leadership bid gained fresh momentum today when more Conservative MPs publicly declared their support.
The six hailed Mr Davis as 'the man with the authority, ideas and energy to do the job.'

The group included Robert Syms, who backed Mr Davis's chief rival Ken Clarke when Michael Portillo was knocked out of the 2001 contest.
