Demolition firm fined £35k for training failure

Welsh firm Walters Demolition was hit with a £35,000 fine at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court today after a parked 20-ton load shovel rolled back without a driver injuring three people.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive revealed that the driver was told to operate the vehicle without training and had parked it with its laden shovel in the upright position.

Two boys and the driver who tried to stop the vehicle as it rolled back were injured.

The firm pleaded guilty to health and safety breaches at Rhondda Magistrates Court at the beginning of November.

Walters Demolition, now trading as Walters Environmental, was also ordered to pay £8,000 in costs.
