Designer targeted in latest row at Wembley

MORE legal action could yet erupt on the Wembley Stadium project even though the quarrel between the builder and client died down last week.

Main contractor Multiplex and Wembley National Stadium Ltd agreed to drop all legal action in favour of a settlement which added £70 million to the construction bill.

But Construction News understands that Multiplex is still contemplating legal proceedings against its designer on the project, Mott Stadium Consortium.

Any action Multiplex might launch will centre on whether the design had to be enhanced and whether it was delivered on time.

It emerged last year that the MSC team might become a target when Multiplex's losses on the project began to balloon.

Earlier this year the High Court trial between Multiplex and former steelwork contractor Cleveland Bridge heard witnesses from both sides claim there had been problems with MSC's work.

A Multiplex spokesman said: 'We don't comment on legal matters.' MSC, which has previously denied any wrongdoing, declined to comment.
