Quarmby Construction site manager Gary McMillan holds an 11th Century iron key which was among a horde of artefacts unearthed at the firm's Spurriegate retail job in York. The finds date from first century Roman through Viking to 13th centu ry medieval deposits. The Spurriegate site has been the focus of an intensive two-year archaeological investigation, which ran alongside the site demolition, by Map Archaeological Consultancy.
