Does Sir Anthony buy British at JCB?

LETTERS

Sir, I read with interest the Revved up column by Sir Anthony Bamford on January 26.

It raised a number of questions for the manufacturer ? and Sir Anthony in particular.

For example, would he like to reveal how many foreign components JCB uses to assemble its British product line-up?

And why did JCB decide to link up with non-British firm Sumitomo to build its excavators?

It would also be interesting to find out whether he keeps his money in a British bank, earning British interest and paying British tax?

The choice of machine must remain with the customer. This has more to do with running costs and residual values than where the machines are assembled.

The bottom line counts in business and each construction company has the opportunity to assess the benefits of JCB's products against the competition before making a purchase decision.

This level of choice will help the UK construction industry to develop and maintain its powerful position at the top of the European market.
