Drivers' hourly limits will cost timber firms

TIMBER producers will be hit hard by changes to European legislation restricting the number of hours delivery drivers can work.

According to a Governmentsponsored report on the timber sector supply chain carried out by the Timber Research and Development Association, moves to include waiting time in a drivers working hours will make 'just in time' delivery hard to fulfil.

Its UK Timber Supply Chain report, published yesterday (Wednesday), said changes should be made to the distribution and storage of timber and wood products in a bid to reduce costs and environmental impact.
