Durkan wins Plaistow housing job

Social housing contractor Durkan has secured a £7.3 million deal to build 57 flats in Plaistow, east London for Community Housing Association.

Work will cover construction of a multi-storey building between three and five levels high on a 4,500 sq m disused brown field site. Of the 57 apartments 33 will be available for shared ownership and 24 for rented accomodation.

Durkan will install solar panels on the roof that will feed the communal heating facilities located in the specially built basement as part of the Government’s requirement for 20 per cent renewable energy.

David Wood Architects designed the L-shaped building which is due to be complete in May 2009.
