East London Line begins

TRANSPORT for London is preparing to advertise its first notice in the Official Journal of the European Union for £500 millionworth of construction work on the East London Line extension.

TfL, which took over from the Strategic Rail Authority as client on the work a fortnight ago, will advertise for a programme manager to look after the scheme before the turn of the year.

Advanced construction work will be advertised in early 2005 with the main contract hitting the market by early summer.

The notices will relate to phase one of the route, which includes extending the line north to Dalston and south to Crystal Palace and West Croydon.
