East London regeneration threat

THE WIDER regeneration of east London by the Olympics could be hampered by a 'confusing layer-cake' of Government bodies and quangos, Leaside Regeneration chairman Eric Reynolds warned last week.

He said: 'At the moment there is no clear chain of command or responsibilities. You have central Government in the shape of the ODPM, the Thames Gateway Development Corporation and then regional government including the Greater London Authority, the London Development Agency and Transport for London.

'That's before the two Olympic authorities are set up, and there are six local councils in the area, all with their own regenerat ion agenda as well.

'There is plenty of room for delay, confusion and cost.'
