Ebbw Vale rail line gets green light

The troubled Ebbw Vale to Newport rail track has been handed over to Network Rail following a final inspection at the weekend.

Blaenau Gwent Council chief executive Robin Morrison said: “The outstanding issues have been resolved and we are pleased to say that Network Rail can now integrate the line into the national rail network.”

The £30 million line was scheduled to open last Friday but was delayed because of issues with safety and engineering standards on the track and with the signalling.

It is expected that trains will run in about two weeks.
