Eco-town to be built near Derby

Banks Developments has submitted plans to the Department of Communities and Local Government for a new 6,000-home sustainable community on the Kingston Estate near Kegworth in Derby.

The 600-acre site includes plans for a distinctive town centre and has been proposed as part of the Government’s eco-town programme, which will use low and zero-carbon homes.

At least 30 per cent of the homes will be affordable housing and 80 per cent will be suitable for families.

Network Rail is planning to build a new mainline station nearby, with direct links to London, and there are also a number of new road schemes underway.
