Edinburgh ConCERT gets tuned up

THE ConCERT consortium, which includes Balfour Beatty, is preferred bidder on a £50 million Private Finance Initiative project to build a rapid transit system in Edinburgh.

The scheme, called the City of Edinburgh Rapid Transit, will involve building 9 km of guided busway linking Edinburgh Airport with the city centre. Locations served will include Princes Street, the Exchange Plaza and the new Scottish Parliament.

ConCERT, which includes bus and train operator First Group and Edison Capital, will begin work later this year in order for the scheme to open in 2001. The PFI concession will run for 25 years.
