Edinburgh Level playing field for Hibs

THREE firms are pitching for a £7 million deal to upgrade Hibernian Football Club's Easter Road stadium.

Hoping to score at the Edinburgh club are Barr, Mowlem and Ballast Wiltshier.

Work is due to start on site in the spring for completion in time for the start of the 2000/01 season.

The scheme will comprise a new 6,500-capacity west stand and a 7,000- capacity east stand.

Work will also be undertaken to level the notorious Easter Road pitch, which currently slopes by 2 m from one end to the other.

The present stands will be demolished, along with a listed boundary wall.
