Education creates new PFI projects

FIVE new PFI projects in the further education sector, worth almost 36 million, are up for grabs.

The Further Education Funding Council (FEFC) has earmarked the projects at further education and sixth form colleges as pathfinders.

They involve work at Carlisle College (2 million); Clarenden College, Nottingham (12.6 million); Tynemouth College (3.2 million); Waltham Forest College (7.65 million) and West Cumbria College (10.3 million).

The schemes along with five launched earlier this year will be monitored by the FEFC.

There are currently 300 million worth of schemes in the sector chasing private backers.

FEFC property services unit Philip Head said PFI projects in the sector were just coming into their stride with some contracts edging closer to being agreed.
