Eight look for share of housing

EIGHT firms have submitted bids for a £103 million residential deal in Cleveland.

Mears, Mitie, Lovell, Connaught, Frank Haslam Milan, Dunelm, Rok and A Baldwin have returned tenders to Erimus Housing, the social landlord running Middlesbrough Council's housing programme. They are competing with the client's own in-house contractor, known as Erimus Building Services.

Up to three firms will share work with EBS on around 2,000 homes a year for five years.

The council had intended to make separate appointments for contractors and suppliers but backtracked after taking advice from industry experts.A decision is expected in mid-March.
