Epping job imminent

CONTRACTS EDUCATION

FIVE firms have a further three weeks to work up bids for a £33 million deal to build a new college in Essex.

Epping Forest College wants to update its dilapidated buildings in Loughton and add a sports facility.

Miller, Kier, Amec, Willmott Dixon and Fitzpatrick are due to return tenders on October 14. The college hopes to announce a winner in early November before work on site starts next January.

Work is due to finish in time for the new academic year in September 2007. One college insider said: 'It is quite critical for us to hit that deadline.' The college had an initial 27 expressions of interest in the work, which will see the main block of the complex run across 15,000 sq m.
