Failures rise

The number of construction companies going bust in the third quarter of 2002 surged 10 per cent to a new threeyear high, according to statistics published last week by the Department of Trade an Industry. The figures showed that 897 construction firms failed in the third quarter of 2002 - the highest since the first quarter of 1999 when 1,005 firms folded.
