Fears grow as of wat pulls plug on spending

THE UK'S 10 water service companies have been prompted into paring back their lists of approved contractors to counteract expected swingeing spend cuts imposed by water watchdog of wat.

of wat is expected to announce today (Thursday) a cut in spending by a quarter, from £4 billion a year now to £3 billion in 2001. This has been triggered by of wat's resolve to force down household water bills.

Contractors fear these cuts will place an even bigger burden on their own purse strings.

A source with one UK-based contractor said: 'The industry is genuinely concerned that the next round of of wat spend cuts will put the water companies under even more pressure to screw the contractors for more.'
