Ferry berth pangs start

KIER, Harbour & General, Nuttall and Mowlem have been selected by Dover Harbour Board to bid for a £20 million deal to build two new ferry births at its Eastern Dock.

The port currently has a single deck and five double-deck rollon-roll-off berths serving P&O Stena Line, Sea France and Norfolk Line ferries.

The contractors are pricing a design-and-build deal to build a new finger pier with berths on each side.

The four will return tenders in early June, with the contract set to be awarded in July.

The first berth is to open by September 2003, with the second scheduled to follow in early 2004.
