Fines anger

Construction union Ucatt has hit out at the 'ridiculously small' fines imposed on three Northern Ireland firms this week following the death of a worker in the province. Following the death of site worker Charles O'Connell in September 2003 Londonderry Crown Court fined contractor McLaughlin and Harvey £10,000, while Foylespan Floors was hit for the same amount.Mr O'Connell's employer, Patrick Murphy, was fined £2,500 for the fatality at the Foyleside Shopping Centre in Londonderry.All three defendants pleaded guilty.
