Firms wait on signal for CTRL

BIDDERS for the final pair of contracts to be let on the first 74 kmlong section of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link are due to be announced next week.

Project insiders said two teams are due to be chosen from three to work up best and final offers for Contract 570, worth about £125 million. An award is expected in early December.

It is understood the three are:

Jarvis/Adtranz/Comsa; Balfour Beatty/Cogefar/Alstom; and Amec Spie.

The project involves track laying, mechanical, electrical and electrification work.

And two teams are expected to be named soon for Contract 550 which covers the design, installation, testing and commissioning of all signalling, control and communications systems.

The CSEE Transport Consortium, comprising French signaller CSEE, Amey and BICC, is battling it out with Alstom for the project, worth about £100 million.
