First house price fall since 2005

House prices in England and Wales fell last month for the first time since August 2005 according to the latest figures from Land Registry.

Avergae sales prices dropped by 0.4 per cent in December to £184,469, with most regions affected.

Only the North East (2.2 per cent), East (1.1 per cent) and London (0.6 per cent) recorded rises.

The volume of transactions was also down on the same period last year, with an average of 103,374 per month in the months July to October 2007, compared with 117,086 per month from July to October 2006.
