Four in hunt for £50m West Midlands shopping complex at former mill site


A QUARTET of firms is checking out a £50 million retail development in the West Midlands.

Laing O'Rourke, HBG, Norwest Holst and John Sisk have all received tender documents for the Shannons Mill scheme in Walsall for property outfit St Modwen and developer Norton & Proffitt.

The successful team will provide 14,000 sq m of retail, catering and public space at the former Victorian Mill site in Dudley Street in the town centre.

The project, scheduled to open in autumn 2005, will provide 60 retail units totalling 23,280 sq m. Benetton, Cotton Traders, Pilot and Costa Coffee are among the high street retailers set to make themselves at home.

Tenders will be returned by the middle of next month for the design and build contract.Work will start on site later this year.
