Glasgow invites 2014 village proposals

Glasgow City Council is looking for expressions of interest for the development of 2014 Commonweath Games athletes’ village.

The proposed development, which is on 38.5 ha in Dalmarnock, will provide accommodation and facilities for 6,500 competitors and officials during the games and, following, will be turned into a residential community.

The community is to include 300 homes for rent and a new 120-bed care home for the elderly while temporary facilities will be removed to release land for further residential development.

Interested companies must show they have the appropriate resources, knowledge, skills and experience to deliver the master planning, funding, construction and re-use of the athletes’ village.

The site will initially be made available at no cost but the appointed development partner will enter into a profit sharing arrangement at the end of the project with the council.

A short list of potential partners will be drawn up in September with the preferred developer identified in spring 2009.
