Going underground

GLYNWED Foundries is launching a range of pipes and fittings which will enable the companys Ensign cast iron drainage system to be used in below-ground applications.

Since its introduction in 1991, the Ensign system has been widely used in above-ground applications. By adding a number of new fittings to the existing range, Glynwed says that the system can now be used below the ground. The new fittings are covered with a zinc-rich base coating which is added to the red epoxy protective coating This is applied to the fittings, both inside and out.

Glynwed claims the Ensign range weighs only about half as much as other cast iron systems designed to British Standard specifications, but loses none of the strength associated with the material.

Should a blockage occur, the cast irons robustness means that the Ensign system can be subjected to aggressive rodding.
