Government approves Drakelow power plant

A gas-fired power station proposed for Drakelow, Derbyshire, has won government approval.

The plant, to be built near the Staffordshire border by the UK division of German-based energy giant E.On, is earmarked to be running by 2011.

An E.On spokesman said it was to soon to cost the project, but a similar size plant being built at the Isle of Grain in Kent had a £500 million budget.
