Govt approves £34m road fund

Transport minister Rosie Winterton has approved a £34 million Government contribution towards a new road between Redruth and Camborne.

The £44 million job includes a new dual carriageway linking the A30 to new housing and employment areas and the conversion of the A3074 into a bus priority corridor.

Walking and cycling routes in the area will also be improved.

Today's decision means that Cornwall County Council can move forward with detailed planning for the scheme, including obtaining all the necessary statutory procedures and with a view to being able to start works sometime in 2010.
