Green light for GMEX revamp

Manchester’s GMEX conference centre is to get a facelift under plans approved today (January 8).

The Manchester Central Complex, which houses the GMEX and Manchester International Conference Centre, was created in the 1980s following a redevelopment of the city’s former Central Station.

But it is now in need of modernisation and today Manchester City Council approved a scheme that will see the replacement of an existing black glazed extension to the building with a new larger foyer, creating a new entrance as well as space for exhibitions, a restaurant and meeting rooms.

It will also provide a link between the conference and exhibition halls.
