Green light to revise power tool risk ratings

PLANT

THE CURRENT traffic light scheme which divides power tools into 'red', 'amber' and 'green' risk ratings should be updated, delegates said.

Speedy Hire health and safety director Mark Turnbull said:'It's a good scheme, but it must move up to another level.' HSE specialist vibration inspector Paul Brereton said he would be working with hirers and manufacturers to source real world vibration data.

Stewart McNaughton, quality, of Martin Plant Hire, criticised the scheme as it stands.

He said: 'The new system should be subject to independent verification and audit, followed by enforcement.'
