Ground force

House builder Persimmon has blamed civil engineering work on a development in North Yorkshire for the collapse of a newly built home. The firm said groundwork being carried out at the Horseshoe estate, in Aiskew, was responsible for the weakening of foundations which caused the gable end of the house to give way during an operation to underpin it last week.
