Growth hits 5pc globally

GLOBAL spending on construction increased by 4.6 per cent last year to hit £2.33 trillion.

Figures released this week by cost consultant Davis Langdon also predict a bright future with growth rates expected to exceed 5 per cent over the next four years.

The USA is still the world's largest construction market with Japan second and China in third place.

But China is expected to leap into second place next year because it boasts the strongest growth rate, alongside India and Brazil.

The UK came in at number seven in the league, behind Germany, Italy and France.
