THE HEAD of the Government's construction working group on Iraq has been given a CBE for his efforts to help rebuild the wartorn country.
Halcrow chairman Tony Allum led a number of delegations to Iraq and highlighted the need to restore the country's shattered health, education, water and power systems.
He is also chairman of British Water and a director of the British Consultants and Construction Bureau.
Also awarded in the Queen's birthday honours was Buro Happold chairman and vice-president of the Institution of Structural Engineers Michael Dickson.He picked up a CBE for his services to engineering.
The National Specialist Contractors' Council's chief executive Suzannah Nichol was recognised for her services to the construction industry with an MBE.Mrs Nichol has fought for subcontractors on a number of high-profile issues including retentions, insurance, health and safety and the reform of the CIS tax system.
Parsons Brinckerhoff civil engineer Paul Harding picked up an MBE for work in highways engineering, while Colin Evans got an MBE for his part in improving safety standards in quarrying.
