Handy work

Five teams are bidding for a £9 million contract to improve the M40 junction at Handy Cross, near High Wycombe for the Highways Agency. Nuttall, Balfour Beatty, May Gurney, Fitzpatrick and Costain will return tenders on April 25 for the early contractor involvement scheme. Work is due to start on the design in June and construction should follow 18 months later. The improved junction will open in 2006.
