Hanson buys top Belgian brick maker

BRITAINs biggest brick maker, Hanson Brick, is buying major Belgian brick maker Desimpel for 125.1 million.

Hanson has acquired a 50.1 per cent stake from the Desimpel family and is making an unconditional offer to acquire the rest. It will also assume Desimpels debts of 70.5 million

Desimpel is a leading clay brick and block maker in northern Europe with 11 plants in Belgium, four in Holland, four in France and one in the UK. The firm made an operating profit of 17.3 million in the nine months to September.
