Hanson shows 36m profit in materials arm

PROFITS at Hansons building material and equipment division, which the conglomerate is planning to float off as a separate company, has reported unchanged profits of 36 million on a turnover of 553 million in the fourth quarter.

But Hanson Brick and Hanson Electrical have been hit by the downturn in housing starts. Hanson said the businesses were committed to maintaining margins.

ARC maintained profitability in the weakening UK road building and construction markets.

Hanson says its Grove Worldwide cranes business has posted sales and profit increases and the Krupp all-terrain product line has been well received.
