Harboured hopes

Hopes that a new £300 million container terminal will be built at Teesport were boosted with the removal of the last objection to PD Ports's proposals for the Northern Gateway deep sea facility.

PD Ports, part of Babcock & Brown Infrastructure, has already secured approval from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council for the land elements.

Proposals for the Northern Gateway Container Terminal include 1,000m of new riverside quay and three berths capable of handling ships carrying up to 9,000 containers.

Final approval from the Department for Transport is anticipated soon.
