Health at risk

NEWS - IN BRIEF

More than 10 people die every day in the UK due to the effects of exposure to asbestos. Occupational health figures released by the Health and Safety Executive last week show that 1,870 people died in 2003 from mesothelioma and at least as many from asbestosis and asbestosrelated lung cancer. The most common form of work-related injur ies were musculosketal disorders.

Metalworkers and road workers suffered 15 times the national average of these.
