Heathrow tunnel collapse firm's fine to be written off

UXBRIDGE Magistrates' Court is to write off the £500,000 fine imposed on Austrian tunnelling consultant Geoconsult for its part in the Heathrow tunnel collapse.

The decision to set aside the debt comes after Geoconsult failed to appear in court last Friday to explain why none of the fine for the 1994 incident had been paid.

The case was adjourned until September 1 while the court contacts the Health and Safety Executive to find out if it has any objections to the fine being written off.

The HSE is due to receive £100,000 costs from the firm.
