Heavyweights team up for £250m road deals

CONTRACTS - SCOTLAND

THREE big names have teamed up to bid for £250 million-worth of work north of the border.

Sir Robert McAlpine has forged links with Morgan Est and Vinci to price all three of the massive M74 deals for the Scottish Executive and Glasgow, South Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire councils.

The scheme was first advertised as a single job 12 months ago but had to be split up to allow over 100 affected businesses more time to find new premises.

The first two packages have now been advertised in the Official Journal.

The first £100 million package involves building 3.3 km of dual carriageway running south from Fullarton Road in Glasgow, where the M74 terminates. The second scheme, worth £115 million, will connect with the M8 near the city's Kingston Bridge.

Potential bidders have until January 21to express interest in the deal, with tender documents coming out in early April.
