Higgins hits high note

PROFITS at Higgins, the privately-owned Essex contractor, leaped sixfold to £650,000 in the year ending July, from £110,000 last time.

Turnover edged ahead to £50.8 million from £48.9 million.

Joint chairman Derek Higgins said the firm was increasingly innovative and pro-active in design and production techniques. He added that the contracting business, D J Higgins & Sons, was generating encouraging levels of enquiries for traditional and design and build construction, particularly in housing, health and education.

Meanwhile, D J Higgins City undertook a £1 million project for the Thistle Hotel Group.
