High-speed hoist cuts cladding interruption

PLANT

UNIVERSAL Building Supply has installed a high-speed hoist on the Ontario Tower in east London, which the firm claims travels at three times the speed of conventional hoists.

The aluminium tower, installed for Ballymore Properties, accommodates multiple hoists simultaneously without requiring additional space, and takes 2.8 tonnes up the 88 m structure in a under a minute.

The low-profile nature of the hoist and reduced number of ties into the structure enables cladding to be fitted to the whole building while it is in place, apart from around the 4.5 m opening.
