Higher gas bills warning

The owner of British Gas continued to warn of higher household bills today - even though it has lost 445,000 customers since the start of the year.
Centrica said expectations of major increases in wholesale gas and electricity prices from July made higher bills for British Gas customers a 'necessity.'

It came as the group said that first-half profits at British Gas would fall short of the £274 million reported a year ago because of the drain of British Gas customers to rival suppliers.
