Hirer tracks service record and security

WELSH plant hirer Hire One has installed high-tech tracking on its digger-todumpers fleet in a bid both to combat theft and improve servicing efficiency.

The firm has had six machines stolen in the past four years.

The hirer's assetBox system, from Box Telematics, which uses mobile phone technology, sends out an alert signal if the plant is moved from its customers' locations and also logs machine hours, enabling maintenance to be better planned.

After a predetermined number of working hours on a machine, the system will send a text message directly to the service engineer's mobile phone.

The system also allows Hire One to produce estimates for customers as to how long a particular machine might be needed on each job.

The hirer 's director, Ian Stevens, said: 'Not only can we ensure that our equipment does not enter any area without our knowledge, but we can also make sure costs are charged correctly, according to the number of hours they operate equipment.'
