Holzmann pays up

GERMAN firm Philipp Holzmann has agreed to pay the US government £20 million for its role in attempting to rig bids for two US-funded wastewater treatment plants in Egypt.

The contractor pleaded guilty in federal court to charges that it attempted to artificially inflate bids on the projects, worth £100 million, between 1988 and 1995.
