FINANCE

MOVING into house building has helped Cumbrian contractor Story Construction push margins to nearly 19 per cent.

The firm, which was only set up seven years ago by Frederick Story, pushed pre-tax profits up £3.7 million to £8.7 million in the year to March 2004.

With turnover bundling up £16.8 million to £46.8 million, margins rose to 18.6 per cent from 16.7 per cent.

Building, civil and housing turnover rose £13.6 million to £38.5 million and the workload at the rail arm tracked up £4.4 million to £7 million, but plant turnover halved to £1.3 million.
