House price rises 'slowing down'

The rate at which house prices are rising has fallen five-fold during the past year, figures showed today.
Property prices in England and Wales were just 3.6 per cent higher during the three months to the end of September than they were during the same period the previous year, according to the Land Registry.

The figure is well down on the 16.3 per cent that annual house price growth was running at during the third quarter of 2004, and it is also below the 5.4 per cent annual growth rate recorded during the second quarter of this year.
